Launceston Airport

Cultural Connector

Airport brands have traditionally been incredibly corporate expressions, loaded with plane and flight references that say very little about where that vital piece of transport infrastructure actually is.

We wanted to change that.

At the heart of our design process was the discovery that the Launceston Airport site has been a place of gathering and transit for millennia. Many of the tribes of the palawa people travelled through here for thousands of years, hunting and celebrating, following the seasons and their traditions.

Today, Launceston Airport is a connector – not just of the physical. It’s a connector of people, culture and stories.

Our design is centred around our commissioning of a bespoke brand artwork by renowned Tasmanian artist Michael McWilliams to create a modern expression of the distinctive Glover Country, where Launceston Airport is situated.

We also created a wordmark that places our client firmly within the family of prominent Tasmanian brands, aligning not only with the redevelopment of the Airport itself, but also the ever-growing culture and awareness of the Tasmanian brand.
